If this is the future, I want it!

A friend sent me this clip about a developing invention that can give us a 'sixth sense'. Watch and be amazed...

(it starts off slow, but stick with it cause it's soooo cool!)

Thoughts: Too invasive, creepy, or uber-cool?
I admit, I wasn't sold until Mistry went into the grocery store. Then the book bit blew me away. And how cool is the taking-pictures feature? Does it come with a built in flash? *hee*

It's an amazing device, but potentially way, way intrusive. I find the privacy implications worrisome, and even more worrisome is how heavy reliance on such technology could facilitate erosion of individual capacity for critical thought, people's self-reliance, and their ability to perform basic life skills without the aid of the "system".

I like technology when it enhances my life, my choices, and my creativity, but I will never consent to becoming dependent upon it at the cost of my personal privacy, autonomy, and human dignity. Like many technological advances, this Sixth Sense thingie persents us with a two-sided coin. There is potential for good, but there is also potential for tremendous abuse.

I'll stay happily ensconced in my mountains where even GPS and cellphones don't work too well! ;)

Hi Wylie, Fellow TRWer here. (Thanks for your comment on my blog!) Amazing sixth sense video! I'm such a technological dinosaur, this is so beyond me. The photos and instantaneous product and book info was impressive, but having personal information flash across my chest when I meet someone, . . . hmmm, not a fan.
Thanks for sharing!!

TL - well said! And you made an important point. Tech is good when it's our choice... when we can turn it off and on at will, not have it imposed or shoved down our throats.

Hi Sharon - thanks for visiting, and please, at the next TRW meeting, we must make a point of meeting face to face. (that said, I don't think I'll be there in March. Maybe April?)
