I like to read. Yeah, big surprise :) But my fave place to read is soaking in a tub of hot bubbly water, probably because it's the quietest place in the house.
The other night, armed with two issues of TIME and the latest Reader's Digest, into the tub I sunk...
My two cats, sadly no longer kittens at 8 months old, like to sit on the edge of my big corner soaking tub - can you picture it? - the kind of bath with a shelf-like ledge? I used to have a beautiful plant in that corner, but the cats practically sat in it (not practically - they DID sit in it!) so I moved it to make room for 'the girls'.
But I digress...
So there we were, the cats in a sitting-doze, me up to the chin in water, well into the second magazine, the room awash in a mist of steam, when my black cat, Licorice, decided to walk along the rim.
I jokingly said, "Don't fall in!" and you know those little back paws started to slide. Into the water she went, taking the Reader's Digest (that I'd put on the edge by my feet) with her.
In all the frantic clawing to climb out, she scared her sister, Lady Grey, who made a dash down the other side, slipped on the TIME I'd put behind my head rest (yes, I have a bath pillow) sending both herself and the magazine into the water too.
As I was scrambling to get the cats out, I dropped the other issue of TIME I was reading!
THEN... as I pushed Licorice out, she vaulted onto the vanity next to the tub knocking down two pullover sweaters and my bra -- INTO THE TUB.
Have I lost you? That was TWO cats, THREE magazines, TWO sweaters, ONE bra, and ME in the tub.
Ah... good times. Wish I had it on video tape just so I could see it all happen in slow motion - cause in real-time, it all went down in about 2.3 seconds.
The bad news? I won't be up on news and the latest in US politics.
The good news? I have the sweetest smelling pussy cats in Canada :)

ROFL! Wylie, what an adventure!! And ooh, a boot camp? I'll go look now. :) Hugs!
LMAO!!! :) I don't even know what to say! It's just too funny! Those cats of yours sure keep you (and me for that matter) entertained! :) They are as much work as a baby! :)
LMAO, Wylie! I can picture it so easily - I used to have a black lab jump into the bath with me (labs are water crazy, but that was ridiculous). But the vision of the 'mouse-trap' type chain of events makes that much more hilarious.
How funny! When I was a kid I had a cat that insisted on batting at the bubbles in the tub and I'm not sure how many times he fell in. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
As you said, at least they smell good.
Been there.
Seriously.
The worst part is when you're not sure who to dry off first: the cats trying to make a beeline for your bed, or you.
SHG - you nailed it, perfectly! I threw on a robe, still soaking wet (yuk) just so I could stop the kitties from jumping under my covers (it's happened before). LOL
Rene - yes, mine like the bubbles too. Gee, maybe if I ixnayed the bubbles, they wouldn't feel compelled to sit up in that corner...
Leah - did you ever see the commercial where the cat knocks something over and it sets off a chain of events that leads to the airconditioner falling out the window and on to a car below? Before my little incident, I thought 'How ridiculous!'
Not anymore. I totally see that happening!
Vicky - worse than babies!!
Red - Like YOU need a kick! Girl, you're just naturally productive, I think ;)
ROFLMAO!!!! Hilarious about your kitties. Our little Siamese boy, Mao, is fascinated with the toilet when it flushes, and I just know that one of these days he's gonna FALL IN.
Yikes. Cats don't usually like water. I bet that was quite the experience. I just started getting Time (thru Airline miles) and it seems like I never have time to read it - my magazine pile is almost as big as my book TBR list. My dream is to get snowed in for a month. Not gonna happen in Texas unfortunately.
LOL - just picturing the scene made me chuckle.
ROFL!! I am so glad you said pussy cats!!! ;)
Wylie! Here I am again. :) You received a Writing Award from moi... come see! :)
'Have I lost you? That was TWO cats, THREE magazines, TWO sweaters, ONE bra, and ME in the tub.'
LOL!! And your Jedi senses were trying to tell you about it all, just one second before...
ROFL!!! My cat has done that! except I ended up with claw marks on my boobs. Ouchy.
What a post! Thanks!
that's the kind of thing a comedy writer would look at and say, 'too over the top, non-one will believe it...'
Hee!
m. - those were my thoughts exacly!
guatami - bet you were expecting a poem, right :)
Christine - OUCH!!
Julia - but my jedi senses were too slow to prevent it!
Kristy - I enjoy my TIME sub. and I also get Canada's equivalent - MacLeans. Both are wonderful sources of news with excellent editorial. Beats getting my wordly knowledge from TMZ! ;)
